Artists Statement

Zoe Benbow is a studio based artist with 31 years professional practice and lives in Hackney with her teenage son. Recent projects include ACE funded ‘Dorothy’s Colour’ which was exhibited at the Wordsworth Trust, Peter Scott Gallery and the Poetry Society. Walking the same paths as documented by Dorothy Wordsworth in her ‘Grasmere Journals’ the project explores ideas around walking women and landscape.

Research undertaken for the project, drawings and photographs have continued to inform her recent paintings which are inspired by the wooded landscapes of Grasmere in early spring.

Zoe’s paintings, oil on canvas, are subtle and precise in their use of colour and composition and play with painting processes to imply natural form. Her work aims to communicate a sense of visual awareness of place with the intention of making room in our view for a little reverie and magic.
